Firearm Safety Rules at Home

Some homeowners purchase and possess guns for various reasons; some say they use them for recreation or sports like hunting and target shooting while others use them for protection against burglars or any bad elements that will come along their way.

Owning a gun involves danger so if you decide to keep a firearm in your home, it is necessary to store it in a safe and proper manner. Do not put it in a cabinet or drawer and even under the mattress. It should be stashed in a secure, convenient and concealed gun safe with electronic lock to thwart unauthorized access. Remember to lock the firearm always. Utilize a safety locking device like a trigger lock or a cable lock to keep firing accidents from happening. Unload your weapon all the time especially if they are not in use and keep the ammunition, locking device keys and other accessories in a different storage.

Make sure to keep them out of reach and out of sight of kids and teenagers too. It is also imperative to teach other family members including children and adults about gun safety and responsibility. Instill in their minds that real guns are not toys and that they can cause permanent injury and even death to someone especially the members of the family; thus playing with them is a definite no-no.
